|Last week, the amazing guitarist Jacob Cordover and Marian met with the multi-award winning million-copy bestselling and internationally renowned Catalonian novelist Jaume Cabre at the prestigious Carmen Balcells literary agency in Barcelona on Jaume Cabre's invitation to discussMarian's latest project - putting his profound and life-changing literary masterpiece 'Confessions' to music.

Mr Cabre granted Marian the rights to work around his book and even agreed for Marian to use the chapters of his novel for movements of my new piece.
In further discussions with his agent Gloria, at this very cordial meeting, the project is now fully supported by the renowned 'Carmen Balcells' literary agency and we look forward to the answer from a leading Catalonian cultural institute for further support.
The project, very closely based on the novel, is in essence a concerto for guitar and orchestra with Jacob Cordover in the main role, as the lead character Adria from the book.
And lastly, the title of the work planned to be premiered in Barcelona next year, and then taken on a tour in Europe, is:

|My latest work for four guitars The Passing of a Black Star, a tribute to David Bowie, has been recorded in New Zealand by the NZ Guitar Quartet to be released in June/July, after a successful premiere in NZ and a consequent tour of China by the quartet. They have done a great job - thank you! They will play it on their tour of NZ in June this year.
This is one of my favourite pieces of music I have written in the last few years. I have used motifs, harmonies and ideas from David Bowie's last disc Blackstar, especially the song Blackstar, Lazarus and I can't give everything away.

He is also the classical guitar player featured in many of the recordings on this web site.
Thank you, Jan!

|On Sunday, I had the privilege of adjudicating the 2014 Cooma Music Competition. This year, I was once again amazed by the talent of the young people of this beautiful Snowy Mountain region of Australia. I am not surprised that so many great musicians have come from this region. This is greatly thanks to the tireless and dedicated work of two wonderful people - Allan and Leslie Spencer, who have run the Cooma School of Music and the music shop in Cooma for decades now. I am very proud to call them my friends.
